Apart from demolishing the structures, it
issued a six month notice to owners of some 214 other houses that have
been completed but now must be evicted pending demolition. Of these
houses, some owners have requested to be granted surveyed plots
elsewhere, a request that was welcomed and received positive response
from the authority by accepting to relocate them.
When The Guardian visited the area, it
found CDA bulldozers pulling down the unfinished houses under tight
security from the Field Force Unit (FFU) who were armed with tear gas
and aside them were the municipal militiamen.
Briefing journalists in his office in
Dodoma, CDA acting director, Pascas Muragiri, said that earlier the
Authority conducted an assessment exercise to determine the number of
people who had invaded the areas and they even took pictorial evidence.
He explained that the particular area that
they had evicted people from is set aside for a big investment project
that will include putting up big residential houses, factories and
office complexes and this investment is not to be undermined by persons
who arrogantly disobey the law.
“Whoever builds their house without first
securing building permits should demolish his own house immediately… “
warned the acting director, adding that Itega was the beginning and now
where they will move to Njedengwa and in his words “…one never knows
where we will go next…” for this reason, it is important that people
comply to the laws of the land.
