Twite brace lifts Yanga

Mbuyu Twite
Young Africans breezed past hosts Toto Africa by 3-1 goals in the only Mainland premiership game played at the CCM Kirumba Stadium here yesterday.
Mbuyu Twite played a huge role in Yanga’s victory when he scored twice in the opening half to restore hope for his new team to secure three points during their Lake zone tour.
Twite was on target as early as the second minute and increased the tally after 21 minutes to intensify psychological hope for the visitors.
Twite whose registration to join Yanga was clouded by controversies proved his worth as Yanga enjoyed a two-goal cushion ahead of strolling into the dressing rooms.
It was Yanga’s third victory of the season after seven appearances when they handed hosts Toto Africa the second defeat, the first at home.
The win has relieved Yanga players, officials and fans after flopping in their Bukoba visits at the hands of Kagera Sugar last Monday.
Toto striker Emma Swita missed a penalty three minutes to time when Yanga defender handed the ball inside the box.
Toto played an impressive game soon after resumption and looked a side highly determined to overturn the two first half goals.
They had well coordinated passed and managed to dissect Yanga defence while giving their home fans a value for money.
The Mwanza boys intensified attacks and secured a goal that eventually became a consolation when Nadir Haroub shot inside his own net in frantic efforts to clear, ten minutes after restart.
The game was highly dominated by Toto but the home side steadily lost steam and composure to invite attacks on their own half.
Yanga scored the third goal through Jerry Tegete after 70 minutes to halt the host team’s second half onslaughts.
Yanga have so far dislodged Kagera Sugar from the third place in the standings table after attaining eleven points. Yanga was on seventh with eight points prior to yesterday’s victory.
Kagera Sugar are fourth with ten points but still have a game in hand this weekend. It was the first victory for the Yanga Dutch coach Ernest Brandts who joined the team barely two weeks ago to replace Belgian Tom Saintfiet.
Simba are still at the helm of the 14-team premiership with 16 points, three ahead of Azam FC who have a game in hand.
Yanga are five points adrift of their rivals Simba, the title holders who are in Tanga for tomorrow’s seventh round game against hosts Coastal Union.
