Tenga urges fair elections

Leodegar Tenga
The president of the Tanzania Football federation Leodegar Tenga has called for free and fair elections to be conducted by all regional bodies affiliated to the federation.
The president was speaking at a press conference held at the federation’s offices in Dar es Salaam yesterday
He said elections must be held while bearing in mind the rules and regulations governing the football game and the guiding constitution.
He urged all the electoral committee to abide to the prevailing constitution and avoid ambiguity that would ignite complaints from voters as well as election candidates.
He said candidates must refrain from violating the pre set rules and etiquettes of the elections.
He also cautioned the TFF’s executive committee and secretariat not to interfere with the electoral committees to meet their personal interest. Instead he said all electoral committees must be respected so as to have smooth running election.
He also warned all aspiring election candidates to take their time and have a closer look of their constitutions before picking up the forms. He said trouble has always been caused by candidates who are ignorant of the governing constitution whether deliberately or otherwise.
He made a call to regional bodies and other affiliated organizations to wind up elections ahead of the federation’s general election set for December.
Tenga who has been in power as president of the federation for two consecutive four year tenures, has declined to declare whether he will be seeking re-election for the third term or not.
He congratulated regional football bodies that have concluded their general elections successfully. He thanked Arusha, Dodoma, Iringa, Kagera, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Mara, Morogoro, Mtwara and Singida for holding their elections free and fair.
