USAID extends training for 66 anti-AIDS staffers
The
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has granted
$10 million (Sh15.7 billion) to facilitate non-governmental
organizations involved in the fight against AIDS, grouped in the BOCAR
umbrella, from both the Mainland and Zanzibar by enhancing training on
communication and documentation.
Training coordinator Sylvester Hanga from the BOCAR project sponsored by
USAID said the project would be implemented in three phases. It would
take five years and benefit 66 staff members from various NGOs.
Hanga told journalists here that about 27 NGOs from different regions
from both sides of the Union had already benefitted from the training.
Training of this nature had been offered to institutions sponsored by
AIDS funding, namely the Rapid Funding Envelope (RFE) in the Lake zone,
Southern zone and the Southern Highlands to equip them with knowledge on
documentation and communication on implemented projects.
Other reasons for offering the training include the need to enable the
trainees to establish company personality and an understanding on how to
work with the media.
RFE has issued subsidy funds to 32 such firms or NGOs in nine phases to
implement progammes to reduce HIV/Aids transmission, aiding orphans
living in high risk areas and reduce mistreatment for children
especially those living with AIDS.
On their part the trainees said they expect to benefit from the training
especially in maintaining viable organizations helping in the fight
against AIDS.
